Delhi University‘s Initiative for Skill Development in Underprivileged Children

One of the parts of the Department of Social Work is Delhi University‘s Centre for Child and Adolescent Wellbeing (CCAW). Recently organized a summer workshop for underprivileged children in DU. These children came from nearby slums and open communities. The workshop was held from June 6 to 13. It aimed to use the school summer vacation to build skills and knowledge. It is for children from poor social and economic backgrounds.

CCAW’s Vision and Leadership

Director of CCAW: Shashi Rani Dev has led this initiative. Mr. Dev is an Associate Professor in the Department of Social Work. It was part of the department’s field extension project.

Focus on Equality: Dev emphasized that underprivileged children in DU are also the future of the country. They deserve equal opportunities for participation and development, regardless of their socioeconomic status.

Key Highlights of the Closing Ceremony

β€’ Chief Guest: Balram Pani, Dean of Colleges at the University of Delhi, was the chief guest.

β€’ Welcome Note: Neera Agnimitra delivered a warm welcome note, setting a positive tone for the event.

Encouragement from the Dean

β€’ Promoting Values: Dean Balram Pani encouraged the underprivileged children in DU. He asked them to embrace good values. He urged them to strive to become responsible citizens.

Celebrating Achievements

β€’ Certificates of Participation: Underprivileged children in DU received certificates of participation. These were awarded by Prof. Neena Pandey. She is the Acting Head of the Department of Social Work. She along with other faculty members presented the award.

β€’ Vote of Thanks: Prof. Pamela Singla expressed gratitude to the Chief Guest. She also thanked the children, faculty, and all other stakeholders.

Engaging Activities for Skill Development

During the workshop, the underprivileged children participated in various activity-based sessions. These sessions were designed to teach them new skills:

  1. Self-Defense Training: This session was conducted by Delhi Police staff, Shakti Singh. It aimed to empower children with basic self-defense techniques.
  2. Creative and Educational Sessions:
