DELHI POLICE TO HIRE FORENSIC EXPERTS FOR CYBER, ECONOMIC OFFENCES

Officials said that the Delhi Police was planning to hire forensic experts for assistance in detection of financial and cyber frauds as well as for the collection of pieces of evidence from the crime scene.

They said that these experts will be hired in the categories of forensic digital, forensic accounting, forensic general, forensic chemical, forensic psychological, physics, and biology.

An official said that a board had already been constituted in Gandhinagar with the National Forensic Science University that will be hiring the professional experts on a one-year contract on the behalf of the Delhi Police.

The police official said that a memorandum of understanding (MOU) was likely to be signed in this month following which the hiring process of forensic experts would begin.

Recently, SN Shrivastava, Delhi Police Commissioner said that cybercrime experts were being hired to improve its investigating ability and they would be working with the police force.

The Commissioner also said that economic offences were also on the increase and forensic accounting experts were also being hired to enhance its investigating capabilities.

It was highlighted by DCP Shrivastava that the economic offences wing (ECW) of the police dealt with complex cases like bank frauds and cheating while adding that it required examination of voluminous documents.

He said that the police personnel were not as much trained normally for examining the financial documents. Therefore, it was required to have somebody who was trained to do that to improve the quality of investigation and make cases foolproof.

OP Mishra, the Joint Commissioner of Police said that the matrix of investigation in economic offences was largely based on the document. A normal part of the investigation included a detailed analysis and forensic audit of bank statements and other relevant documents.

He said that they had to hire auditors in normal cases for the analysis of relevant documents. They had chartered accountants in their panels who also did the analysis. So, if they get forensic auditors for forensic accounting, that will also be helpful to them in enhancing the speed of the investigation as well as the professional skill.

Currently, there are vacancies for 119 people according to a source.

People who have a background in allied science and forensic science with relevant experience in the field will be considered eligible for the posts.

He said that they would be able to examine cases of money laundering, cyber fraud, tax evasion, and misappropriate assets while elaborating on the role of forensic experts for investigation purposes.

The source said that the forensic psychological experts will be interacting with the suspects as well as those who are related to them. They will be using brain mapping, suspect detection system, brain polygraph and other techniques used to gather information for the police systems in preparing questionnaires and interviewing the suspects.
