The admission process of Delhi University for the academic year 2019-20 has witnessed a lot of changes in the procedure and methodologies and it seems like the trail is never-ending. It is most likely that the University of Delhi might hold an entrance examination for all of its UG, PG, M. Phil and PhD programmes. To substantiate the discussion, an NTA source tells that the central agency has already asked the officials of DU to send its terms and conditions for the tests and/or other details.
National Test Agency, also known as NTA, is a renowned central agency which excels in holding examination for admission/fellowship in many higher educational institutions. After the hassle-free process of JNU entrance examination, which will be held from May 27 to May 30, DU will be the second central university to settle for NTA’s computer-based examination for admissions 2019-2020. “The DU admission committee might consider taking NTA’s assistance in conducting the DU entrance exams for admissions,” said Dr Tyagi.
With the failed attempts of two instances before, DU is hoping the decision will be fruitful for, both the candidates and the officials. Back in 2017, the proposal to introduce an online entrance test was being dismissed after student groups pointed out that it would not be rational to conduct the computer-based examination in such a short notice. In another case of last year, the admission committee and advisory committee unanimously stated “The entrance exam process is proving hindrance to take the major step with outsourcing the test to a private partner is another bottleneck.”
The University of Delhi is currently conducting entrance examinations for some handful of courses which include its nine UG and all the PG programmes. The admission of the rest of the UG programmes will be offered on the basis of the candidate’s 12th board marks where the ‘Best of Four’ formula will be taken into consideration to generate the cut off/merit lists
Other changes to cool your heels
The admission procedure of Delhi University will see a hike in the application forms this year. The candidates in general category will have to pay Rs. 250 (earlier it was 150/-), while the candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC will have to pay Rs. 150. The university will also be introducing the ‘Online Marks Calculator’ and ‘Correction window’, in a first. However, the varsity will be charging for each and every correction being made in the candidate’s application forms. The candidates can now view the live display of the cut offs and the vacant seats in their favourite college as the university will be making a 24*7 dashboard accessible to the candidates in their online portal.
The officials of Delhi University are hoping that the admission process will conclude before the commencement of the first semester for the academic year 2019-20, marking this year’s triumph over its legacy of India’s one of the most sought-after enrollment procedures. “We are trying to make the system student-friendly. These proposals will only lead to the system being more effective and systematic”, clarified Dr Rajeev Gupta.
