Manish Sisodia, Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi visited the site proposed for Delhi Sports University (DSU). He inspected the Mundka site. For the construction of the University, ninety acres of land have been designated.

It’s decided that the Vice-Chancellor of the first-ever sports university in the country will be an experienced sportsperson. The position holder will be selected after thorough and multiple examinations.

He said that the coronavirus pandemic stopped the work. The university work got disrupted due to it. Now that unlock measures have kick-started the work is resumed. He added that the work pace has to be increased.

A doctorate, post-graduation, and graduate degrees will be awarded to the ones enrolled in the university. The degrees are provided in cricket, football, and others too.

IS DELHI GOVERNMENT GOING TO TAKE OVER DU COLLEGES?

Last year the Aam Aadmi Party government passed the DSU bill which permits the build of the University. The Bill was passed on December 2nd, 2019. In October 2019 the Delhi Sports University Bill, 2019 was passed in the Delhi cabinet. It will be India’s first sports university. The Chief Minister also announced that he will soon work towards building sports schools.

Arvind Kejriwal said that DSU will be the center to produce the best sportsperson and coaches. He aims to train sports enthusiasts who will win more Olympic medals than China.
Targeting the previous governments, Chief Minister added that the sportspersons didn’t get the required support from the government. This led to low infrastructure and training in the country.

The University aims to provide world-class opportunities to the children and youth of the country in the arena of education and sports.

DELHI GOVERNMENT: DU COLLEGES SHALL PAY SALARIES FROM SSF

Promoting world-class training, research and academics will be the objective of the Delhi Sports University. The fields targeted would be sports supplemented with health and exercise.

The Deputy Chief Minister said the University will provide multidisciplinary teaching and training in sports. It will prepare and train sports professionals. They will have the skills to attract a wide range of employment opportunities.

The broad goal will be to encourage public health through sports in academia. Moreover, it will be made more accessible to the public.
The move can be a game-changer for the future of sports in the country. More and more students are expected to have a career in sports.
