A centre for conducting research on public policy and governance is soon going to be set up by the Delhi University according to a meeting conducted by the University Academic Council on 21st June 2019. The school is the need of an hour to contribute to the quality of the governance and management and policy making in today’s ever changing and contemporary world. The centre will be popularly called as Delhi School of Public Policy and Governance.
The standing committee passed the proposal mentioning about providing the facility of wide community of academics and practitioners. Various challenges in domestic and international policy will be addressed by the community and ideas will be shared. The school will comprise of a governing body, an advisory council and area coordinators according to the proposal.
Vice-chancellor or his/her nominee will be nominated as chairperson for the governing body of DSP&G. Various representatives from leading institutions will be included in the governing body in the field of public policy and governance. Many short term courses for practitioners who work with great agencies, besides catering to the research scholars such as lawyers and policymakers are also offered by school.
Even Tawir Aeijaz, a teacher at Ramjas college said that the plan to build a separate school for public policy and governance has been pending since long.
He said that the school will the main inter-disciplinary centre with special focus on economics, sociology, political science etc. with parental discipline. The research scholars, honorary fellows and visiting scholars from various universities outside India will be catered initially by the school.
It is also an opportunity to the research fellows and teachers from other colleges to participate in the research in the discipline. The teachers can continue their working in respective departments and colleges and at the same time carry out their research project in school along with participating in its programme.
