Common Admission test (CAT 2017) is one of the competitive examinations for postgraduate programmes in Business Administration. Every year a large number of candidates appear for CAT examination. The examination act as a doorway to leading Indian Institute of management (IIMs) and other B- schools of country. A seat in these institutions ensures high pay-packages and a rewarding career in business administration. CAT is conducted by the IIMs on the rotation basis. This year, it will be conducted by IIM, Lucknow. If you are also appearing for CAT 2017, here are important things that you should know:

Some important tentative dates have been announced which are following: 

August 9: Registrations for CAT 2017 open

September 20: Registrations close (5:00 pm).

October 18: Admit card will be made available for downloading till the date of test.

November 26: Common Admission Test 2017 (CAT 2017) will be held in two sessions.

Eligibility Criteria:-

  • The minimum qualification required is graduation with 50% marks (45% for SC/ST/PWD). If the obtained marks are in the form of CGPA then it would be converted to percentage marks according to guidelines of university/ institution from where the candidate has passed his/her bachelor degree.

  • The candidates appearing in the final year of bachelor’s degree and whose results are awaiting are also eligible to apply for CAT.

Exam Pattern of CAT 2017:-

The paper will consist of three sections – Verbal ability & reading comprehension, data interpretation & logical reasoning, and Quantitative ability.  The duration of test will be 180 minutes and will be conducted in online mode. Some of the important points related to test are:

  • Total number of question in exams will be 100 to be solved in 180 minute.

  • 1 hour limit will be given for each section and candidate cannot switch between sections.

  • Use of basic screen calculator is allowed.

  • Non MCQ questions will be part of exam and there will be no negative marking for Non MCQ questions. However there will be penalty of one mark for incorrect answer in MCQ questions.

How to register for CAT 2017:-

  • Candidates can register on the official website (iimcat.ac.in) and create profile.

  • After registration, a unique user ID and password will be sent to candidate’s registered mobile number using which they can login and fill CAT application form.

  • After filling details, check one more time before clicking ‘submit’ and pay the application fee.

  • Candidates also need to upload their photograph, signature and other necessary document as specified.

  • Candidates have to select four cities as preferred examination centers. Exam centers will be assigned to the candidates only after the last date of registration.
